Practical Ways to Eat Cheap While on Vacation

ways to eat cheap

A vacation is a well-deserved retreat, but no one ever said it was a cheap expense. Whether traveling with your family or alone, a vacation can really set you back, making the task of finding ways to save money a priority. How about you start with food? There are actually a number of ways you can eat for cheap while on vacation.

Head down to the Lobby

When the mission is to save money, what’s better than free? There are a number of hotel chains that offer free dining options for their guests. At some properties this consists of breakfast, at others a happy hour with light appetizers and at some properties an around-the-clock snack bar. Whatever the offering, it’s free food. Before leaving your hotel to eat, find out what options you can take advantage of in-house.

Coupon Clip at Home

If you really want to save money, it’s a good idea to start planning at home. Perform a quick search to get an idea of some of the restaurants in the area where you will be traveling. Next, search for online coupons you can find for these restaurants. Whether it’s a free appetizer, BOGO meal offer or a $5 off coupon, these are all great ways to spend less money.

Have an Open Schedule

If there is a must-visit restaurant on your list, be open when it comes to when you eat there. Take the world-famous Bacchanal Buffet at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, for instance. A dinner buffet starts at $58 and a lunch buffet at $39, per person. Although this might not seem like a significant difference, for a family of four, this represents a $76 savings. If the food is great, it will be tasty no matter what time of the day you eat.

Eat Like a Local

The closer you are to a major tourist attraction, not only are the lodging accommodations more expensive, but the menu prices are too. Take this as a cue to eat like a local. If you’re not familiar with the city, check out a local foodie website or ask the concierge for a recommendation. Not only is this a great way to save money, but it offers a unique opportunity to truly immerse yourself in the local culture.

You don’t have to break the bank paying to eat while on vacation. Plan early and eat smart.
